BROKEN FACE, Sweden (summer 2002):
TURN PALE
Bloomington, IN post punk outfit Turn Pale returns with a 7" fueled with passion, energy, and a fascination with darkness. "Chance" is a repetitious little masterpiece, with its grinding bass riffs, droning guitar, swirling electronics, pounding drums and dark vocals sounding like an imaginary cross between Joy Division and The Fall. The flip doesn't reach the same outrageous heights, but on repeated listening you'll see that this claustrophobic rock fairytale has an incredibly nervous drive well worth writing home about. The dark post-punk aesthetics will inevitably lead to comparisons to the greatest of the genre, but Turn Pale is just too formidable to be dismissed as copycats.
